Help suggest a RTS please!

I'm looking for something close to C&C Red Alert. Some old school style RTS.

I've played every single C&C game (including Renegade) and Red Alert was my favorite. I've also played the dune games. I'm looking for an experience close to that. There are a lot of great RTS games out now but they look too complicated for me, like SC2 or Warhammer. I'm looking for something above a tower defense game but not as complex as todays popular RTS.

I'm thinking there's gotta be some indy developer(s) somewhere that's a C&C Red Alert fan who made something.

Ideas OCN? (youtube gameplay clips would be awesome, but i'll copy and paste if you don't wanna )

Company of Heroes is really, really fun. But there is a medium learning curve to it. However I like it over many other RTS games. It's much more about squad management than anything else. Well, that and your deployment strategy.

It's super fun to conceive strategies for different types of game play once you get into it. One thing that is nice about it, when you play the campaign it does a nice progressive curve in terms of difficulty. It doesn't just all of a sudden get overly difficult.

I'm at a loss to recommend anything else other than WC3. I miss it so bad.

Wish I still had my old copy....

Ohhh, the war craft games were awesome too!
I tried company of heroes before, I had a demo. I thought it was very hard to micromanage everything. I thought, if I don't even get the demo, whats the point in buying the game.

I can definitely understand that, too true.

Though it may not really be a normal RTS game, you should check out DEFCON if you like RTS. It's actually pretty fun.

Beyond that, I'm useless for recommendations! Good luck on your search!
