Best card to use with 4290 Hybrid Crossfire?

Thread Starter
I noticed that the 5670, 5570, 5550, and 5450 are the compatible cards for hybrid crosfire with the 4290 (890GX).

Crossfire Compatibility

I am mainly a console gamer but want to play Portal 2 that I downloaded for PC right now. I will probably download a few other games later but I'll mainly stick to my consoles. I just want a cheap card (~$100) that will perform decent. I know I'll only get so much for $100 so that's why I thought that the Hybrid Crossfire will give it a little boost. I have lots of ram, so I'll be allocating the max for the onboard. I'm wanting to just get one from the local BestBuy so I can just return it if I'm not happy with the performance.

I'm not savvy with video cards, so I'm not sure what's better 512MB of GDDR5(5670) or 2GB of DDR3(5450), etc, etc. Here are a few that I'm looking at......any opinions?

Sapphire - ATI Radeon HD 5670 512MB GDDR5 PCI Express Graphics Card - 100287L

VisionTek - ATI Radeon HD 5450 2GB DDR3 PCI Express Graphics Card - 900356

VisionTek - ATI Radeon HD 5450 1GB DDR PCI Express Graphics Card - 900315

VisionTek - ATI Radeon HD 5450 1GB DDR3 PCI Express Graphics Card - 900358

XFX - ATI Radeon HD 5570 1GB DDR3 PCI Express Graphics Card - HD-557X-ZNFR

I'm open to any other suggestions as well. Thanks in advance.

2Gb on GDDR3 on a 5450 is more then a waste, if you can, grab the fastest GDDR5 card that can Hybrid-Crossfire. But make sure they share specs, or one chip will slow the other down.

^That's DDR3, right? I would rather ATI though.

The GDDR5 card is only 512 though. Would that be enough for most games? Also, it will combine the 512 card and the 512 or whatever onboard that I allocate....giving me a gig or so.....right?....or does it just use both GPUs?

Do you guys think that card by itself would be better than this in hybrid crossfire?

Yes.

Heck yea! Even a single 5770, or even a 5750 would be better than any of those hybrid crossfire setups.
