Frozen Synapse - anyone try it yet?

I'm very curious about it and was wondering if anyone has tried it yet. What's the verdict? Looks very interesting in my opinion.

It is kind of annoying that you cannot buy just one copy for $10 currently.

Interesting.

Though i think this is more of a TBS than an RTS from the looks of the trailer. If my assumption was correct , its going to be hell to even hit someone in a real game without some sort of AoE weapon or something with an incredibly large spread.

Actually, whether or not you hit someone is based on stillness, cover and aim. Machine gunners, shot gunners and snipers will shoot on-sight unless told otherwise. However, you have to tell rockets and grenadiers when to fire.

Players have lots of control over their infantry. You can tell your men were to go, when to wait, where to aim, when to duck, when to stand, when to shoot, when not to shoot, who to ignore, who to focus on etc.

You're right, it is turn-based but not in the traditional sense. In each round there is the planning phase and then the outcome. During the planning phase both players plan their moves at the same time and the outcome shows the result.

Games can last a while so instead of waiting for your opponent to complete his move you can exit the game and play another, and another, and another...

All the moves are saved server-side so when both you and your opponent are ready you can simply load the game and carry on where you left off.

I bought the soundtrack edition earlier today and here is my preliminary review of the game:

Interface and Menu: Simplistic and smooth. Very reminiscent of Uplink, just better looking. I had some trouble logging in at first but it seems the servers were being hammered. Not a lot of options but you don´t need any for this game. Nice to have an inbuilt chat function where the devs answer any questions. 7/10

Graphics: Simplistic and smooth. (Notice a trend here?) Won´t make my sli gtx460´s cry but no games really do. The graphics look like the Rainbow 6 planning phase on steroids. Perfect for their purpose. 8/10

Sound: WOW. Probably the best ingame sountrack I´ve ever heard. I bought the soundtrack version and highly recommend it if you like mellow electronic music. I´d buy a "real" studio album by Nervous Testpilot should he ever release one. 10/10

Gameplay: Turn-based-close-quarters-combat-strategy with a top down view. On the surface very simple but surprisingly deep once you get more involved. Quite difficult which was a nice surprise. WARNING: Playing Frozen Synapse may make you lose all sense of time and cause you to neglect all your real duties. 9/10

Multiplayer: Haven´t tried it yet so I´ll reserve comment until I´ve tried it.

Overall: 9/10

I have a copy, and I love it so far, the single player is pretty good so far.

Edit: I have the beta, did not even notice that they released recently.

Great game. Still "training".

It's basically Counter-Strike - The Strategy Game... With a rocket guy

A phrase somebody on the net used to describe it: "It's the indie game answer to Starcraft 2"

EDIT: Don't bother playing the AI imo, it's a challenge, because it's hard to figure out what their plans are

Is it hard to get into? As in, takes hour of learning before its actual playable/fun?
