best budget cards to SLI with?

Thread Starter
so looking for some great cards to run SLI with that would beat out a lot of the higher end single cards.

budget of 300-400$ for the cards.

planning on playing games on 1920x1080 in the future, but using 1680 now.

"please no purchase a nice single card now with the option of upgrading in the future" After i'm done, i likely wont touch my rig for another few years tongue.gif

atm, I thinking of buying 2 GTX 470 1gbs (not SE) unless anyone can recommend anything better!

thanks guys cheers.gif

Not sure about their cost but maybe 2 gtx 560 not Ti and compare both and grab the best cards.

560 ti
if your upper limit is $400 for an sli setup, then i'd say perhaps grab a pair of 560ti, they perform more often than not better than the 470s, with added bonus of less power hungry less heat, better future drivers (as they are the latest generation cards). the only thing i can think of that the 470 might do better is when you crank up the eye candy stuff as they have more vram, but other than that, i don't see why you would want older technology over new ones at similar price point.

Keep in mind PSU limitations. (I am assuming your sig rig isn't the rig you are upgrading)

I have the 560Ti 2gb, its a great card, but its the latest gen, and is hardly great value atm when looking to SLI for 1080p, SLI'ing for 57x10 on the other hand, it is fantastic value...

So you are deadset on 2 cards then? Reasons?

SLI will run hotter then a single card, so you will need good ventilation in your case...

Cheers,

Ishi

$192ea after MIR, not a bad price to be honest, i would look at 2 of these...

Comparison between 470 vs 560 Ti

Looks that the 560 Ti trumps the 470

Edit: The board in your Sigrig wont support SLI

For a budget of US$300-400, I recommend a pair of GTX560 Ti which can beat a single GTX580. The following two models fit right in.

a. Galaxy GTX560 Ti (each costs US$190 after MIR)

b. EVGA GTX560 Ti (each costs US$192 after MIR)

I would go with these options:

GTX 460's 1GB ~ $300
GTX 560's non TI ~ $400 (TI If you can get them for this price, I hate mail in rebates and the 90 day wait)

ATI

HD 6870's ~ $330

When it comes to scaling, the 6870 will outperform both!

GTX 470's in SLI generate a lot of heat! I did not like the setup I had because of this!
