i5 2500K Beginners overclock

I've never overlcoked and I'm not sure if its such a good idea (voiding warranty and all) but I hear you can get motherboard that will auto-overclock it to a nice level without it requireing any technical altering.

ASUS P8P67-M PRO Motherboard B3

That's the motherboard I had in mind but I was wondering if anyone had any experience with it?

The motherboard needs to be Crossfire/Sli compatible and have x8/x8 lanes not x16/x4 and not cost over $180ish dollars (thats more like a $150 board in the US, theres a premium for living on a godamn island -.-) if anyone has any suggestions/tips that would be great

I suggest this. I am getting it for my P67 build. The Asus boards do have issues with RAM just warning you. With higher speed RAM resetting to 1333 on bootup and defaulting to lower speeds. I dunno. I love my Asus laptop and all, but I am nervous getting one of those boards.

I actually was originally going for that board but I heard ASUS was better and it was cheaper so I thought it must have been better

That's not true man at least for me.... I'm running 2100mhz @ CL8 and there has never been any ram speed reset or anything like that.
Sure if your overclock is too unstable your settings will reset but random ram reset is st I haven't seen around !!

Asus boards are solid boards. Just make sure you get a ram from the qualified list as asus boards tend to be a tad picky about ram.

I have the P8P67 pro and I've never had a memory issue at 2000mhz.

I've not had experience with any other boards so I can't comment on them, but this board has been great.

Well if you look on Newegg at the P67 Asus boards it is even stated there these issues. As I stated I steered clear so I am not going off experience. Also I would like to state the fix for this is simply turning on APM to PCIe enable. But it does take some fiddling.

Edit: also there is reference to this only happening to RAM running at higher than 1.5v .
here is neweggs statement on the Asus MoBo description: DDR3 2200(O.C.)*/2133(O.C.)*/1866(O.C.)/1600(O.C.)/1333/1066
(* Due to CPU behavior, DDR3 2200/2000/1800 MHz memory module will run at DDR3 2133/1866/1600 MHz frequency as default.)
