Intel Stock FAN...... strangely working?!

Hello!

I bought an Intel i7 870 a few months ago a-a-and I had cooling problems around a month ago. When I stability test the CPU it got at constant and the FAN was running at around 2400 RPM. And it was 2400 RPM when it was at the constant 98 Celsius. Now... Today I was playing Test Drive Unlimited 2.. I just cruised with a few friends and when they logged off I minimized the game and check the temperatures. They were 60 Celsius and I just.. looked at the FAN speed (I don't usually do this) and it was 3400 RPM?! I looked around the net and I saw a review in which it was written "The Intel's stock cooler goes to max 1800 RPM.". I'm with the Intel's stock cooler and it was able to go to 3400 RPM?! Now I'm watching it randomly... And when it reaches around 50 Celsius it goes to 3000 RPM. And when I look back 1 month ago it was 98 Celsius and it was running at only 2400 RPM. Why is this? And how is it reaching such high.... I don't know.. My English isn't very good.. How is it reaching such high amount of spins per minute?

I'm sorry, I hope you'll understand me because my English is bad.

What program did you use to check the fan speed? Some programs do not accurately report the speeds.

I think you should clear your CMOS. Even check if the fan cable is properly plugged into the header. There is no way the stock cooler can reach 3000+ rpm. Try a different software too.

And make sure that you don't have two programs that can monitor temps and fan speed open at the same time. Quite often that will cause the fan speed to read double the actual speed.

Well both SpeedFan and Everest detect the same Fan Speeds. And they don't run at the same time. How can I clear my CMOS? And what exactly is this CMOS? What will happen when I clear it? Sorry, I'm still a noob at this. :/

To clear the CMOS you generally have to short the pins on the motherboard.
You'll have to put the jumper on the other two pins and run the system. IT WILL RESTORE EVERYTHING TO DEFAULT. Check your motherboard manual.

A jumper is just small metal connector with a plastic cover used to connect two metal pins together.

You can even clear the CMOS by removing the battery for a while.

Before all this, I would suggest Loading setup defaults in the BIOS.
