1090T: Can I leave Turbo Core on when overclocking?

Thread Starter
I guess most of the time there aren't more than 3 cores in use so I'd gladly use the extra 400Mhz.

My overclock is currently at 4.1Ghz@1.5125V, NB 3Ghz@1.3125V. Would I need to increase the volts for Turbo Core? Can Turbo Core increase the temperature and cause instability?

GTA IV e.g. still runs very laggy with about 15-30fps @4.1Ghz when settings are maxed(Vehicle Density 1 though). The fps are often below 10 and sometimes the picture freezes for a split second e.g. on sharp turns or when I turn the camera fast while driving fast.

I really wish I had bought an i7 instead of this half-assed 1090T. But I'm stuck with it now. So I have to try to get as much out of it as possible.

So, can I leave Turbo Core on when overclocking or may this cause problems?

Thanks.

No. Not at 4.1GHz.

Lol, I get none of that when playing GTA 4 and you have a better graphics card too and I run mine at stock 3.2ghz a lot. Not the cpu causing that. If you run turbo core you may blow your board. Turbo core also ups the volts when it kicks in. Sometimes a lot.

Your already at 4.1 with added voltage. That chip probably will not run at 4.5 stably but the only way to find out is to try it and see if it'll pass stress tests. Its my understanding that the Thubans are not going to go much past 4.2-4.3 on air stable with or without turbo-core.

Plus turbo will cause your cpu voltage and temp the change too. I doesn't matter if you set the voltage in the bios. Turbo will change it.

You can do it with AMD Overdrive. you can do something like 3600/4000(tried this one) or 3700/4100. You can set voltages for each mode(you need to know the voltage increments your motherboard can do, Software can't fine volt your chip). AMD Overdrive is ok if you only tweak the multiplier and vcore voltage. So you save your settings, set AOD as a startup item then you are cool. As long as you keep it under 55c and not kill your mosfets

PS: Ofc it's gonna be only 3 cores(AOD has setting to make all cores go high but i doubt its gonna be stable) on 4ghz. But it's enough for games and it's healthier because its gonna run cooler than 6x4ghz cores. You can even set the game's affinity so only the 3 cores you set will go 4ghz. This might increase stability because Windows will not "cause" random 3 cores to go 4 ghz all the time(because it switches cores all the time). Only the ones you selected for the game will be 4ghz and they will stay 4ghz. Now only if you could set affinity in the shortcut properties :/

No. The voltage will still change when turbo is on in the bios or the software.

have you ever tried AOD turbo core OC dixson ? Ofc its gonna change. You first set the multiplier to 18 then you set the normal vcore voltage to whatever your cpu can run 3.6ghz at. Then you click "TURBO CORE" button and set the turbo core multiplier to 20 and Turbo Core voltage to whatever your computer can run 4ghz at Yes there's a separate Turbo Core Overclocking section. You can even change how many cores will go "Turbo". Thou it's advised to use only 3.

PS: I even found out how to make a shortcut to run the application on specific cores. Example shortcut target for 0,1,2 cores:
Code:
C:\\Windows\\System32\\cmd.exe /c start "C:\\Program Files (x86)\\foobar2000\\foobar2000.exe" /affinity 0x07 "C:\\Program Files (x86)\\foobar2000\\foobar2000.exe"
Ofc you need to manually set the icon for it.

With AOD you can set it so the voltage doesn't rise. You could even set it so it drops the voltage when the turbo activates.
