New Build. Fans = on, POST = ??

Thread Starter
Just put together a new desktop and I'm seeing every indication of a running machine (power to peripheral devices from USB ports, all fans running, drives running) but I have just a black screen on my monitor.

This is my first time building one myself, so i'm not totally sure what to expect as far as seeing the POST occur etc.

Here is what I'm using (all firsthand):
MB - ASUS M4A78LT-M
GPU - XFX Radeon 6850
CPU - AMD Phenom II X6
CPU Cooler - Cooler Master Hyper 212+
PSU - Thermaltake TR2 RX 750W
RAM - Corsair XMS3 1x4GB DDR3 1333MHZ (CMX4GX3M1A-1333C9)
HD - Seagate Barracuda 7200.12 SATA 3GB
DVD - Samsung SH-S223L
Case - Fractal Design R3

What i've tried:
- Re-seated everything (incl CPU which is sort of a b&%$ with the cpu cooler)
- Reset the CMOS
- Tried to get boot with nothing connected but power to MB

Does anyone have any other ideas??? I don't know what i'm missing, but then again i don't know a lot of things about this process. Anything helps!

Do you have any spare ddr3 memory as that may be the issue, also make sure you gpu is power properly do you have a old gpu that you can test?

Maybe there is a Problem with the BIOS and does the Computer Bleep after about 3 Seconds of booting ?

Try the onboard GPU maybe there is not enough power going to your Graphics card ?

My first guess is that your GPU is DOA. if you have any PCI-E card lying around, try plugging that into your system and see if that fixes it. XFX has a serious problem making quality GPUs, I had two of their 5850s fail on me within a few months. It wouldn't surprise me if they sent you a faulty card, unfortunately. :/

Thanks for the prompt responses!!!

my psu gives it 750W so i should be okay there i think.

I don't have another stick of ram hanging around, i wonder if that is the issue?

Not sure my MB has an onboard GPU, if so i didn't see it anywhere. I did try to boot up with nothing but power and CPU hooked into MB but that didn't get me anything. Would this be different?

I do believe its your GPU as I forgot to put my Power cables into my 5850 and all I could here was the fan at full load, So if I was you I would go buy a cheap graphics card for like £10 and see if it is.

Then if it is your Graphics card I would send that XFX card back and get a Sapphire or something.
