GTA IV is **** on the PC. Not optimized at all.

But raw computing power seems to overcome the bad optimization, since it seems to run flawlessly on an i7 980x.

The 1090T just isn't strong enough to overcome the bad optimization. I really wish I had an i7 instead. I thought long about which CPU to get and in the end I still made the wrong decision. I would have been better off with an i7 930 or 950.

My overclock is currently at 4.1Ghz@1.5125V, NB 3Ghz@1.3125V.

GTA IV still runs very laggy with about 15-30fps @4.1Ghz when settings are maxed(Vehicle Density 1 though). The fps are often below 10 and sometimes the picture freezes for a split second e.g. on sharp turns or when I turn the camera fast while driving fast.

The XFX 5970 BE is @stock 725/1000Mhz due to no fan control. GTA IV is installed on Win 7 Pro 64 Bit. Latest GTA IV patch applied, Catalyst is 11.2.

Thanks.
I had the same problem with my 4870x2, for like 3 months it ran at a steady 56 fps, then one day I updated my drivers and boom it went down to like 20, no matter what I did it wouldn't fix the frame issues. Just a game problem I guess

How is it now? What are your current fps in GTA IV with your 4870x2, if you still play? If not were you able to fix the issue eventually and if how?

It happened one more time after that and I had to uninstall and reinstall again. Eventually I sped through the game and finished it in about a week or two before it could happen again. But I stayed in my average 56 fps on foot and about 40 fps while driving
