Hopefully first overclock...soon...

Hello! My sig rig is made up of parts from my older brother's old rig, and I am wanting to know if what I have could get a little boost out of my old CPU. My brother told me he could get it up to 2.8Ghz I think, but never a full 1Ghz overclock. This would be my very first overclock, and just wanted some help from people, maybe tips/guides to help me. But I would like some personal help too. I probably not overclock till my brother comes home, so if I do anything wrong he can help me. So if you could tell me if it's okay to overclock it, and what would be a good spot to stop at! Thanks! biggrin.gif

P.S.

Would doing this boost the performance a lot or not much. Because right now it can get slow by just playing music through Zune player, and having a couple tabs up. And I have a gadget that shows the RAM and CPU usage, and it can get to the 70% when opening tabs and such.

I would reccomend overclocking But not on that motherboard, If it was up to me I would get this board

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Asrock-AMD-Socket-AM2-AM3-DDR2-DDR3-Motherboard-/130524307602?pt=UK_Motherboards_CPUs&hash=item1e63dae092#ht_3282wt_906

as it supports DDR2 and DDR3 and you can put a AMD Athlon or Phenom II x4 in but I would reccomend a X6

Depends on your budget

You will be able to overclock on Stock Voltage but it probably wont make a notiable diffrence

I'm not looking to buy anything, because I have no money. All I have is this.

I believe the default is 1.9GHz...And should I change the volts? I thought that was what it's supposed to be at, I didn't change anything my brother gave it to me, and it's stayed the same the whole time. How do I change it?

So is that where you think the sweet spot is?
