Unidentified Network issue on new PC

Well, I'm about ready to blow someone's head off. I've spent all day trying to figure out what the issue is to no avail. I just recently finished building my PC, got Windows 7 installed on it with no problems, but no matter what I do, my PC is unable to identify my network when connected to an Ethernet port in the wall, which is networked to my Linksys router. When I plug the Ethernet cable from my router, straight to the modem, I'm able to get past the 'Ethernet Cable is not connected', but the network stays Unidentified. I really don't know what to do anymore guys, I've never had this issue before. I installed the drivers off of the ASUS support CD for my Mobo since I can't download them straight off the web, and still nothing. I would appreciate it if anyone, anyone at all, can help me get this straightened out.

Basically all it says is Media Disconnected. Then I have some IP in IPV4 and a subnet mask that doesn't match my networks.

Connectivity is definitely going to be impacted if you remove the default route..

I recently ran into this problem too with my ancient nforce 720a chipset.
It seemed as though the onboard network just stopped working one day after setting up a new router.
I tried new drivers, old drivers, new windows install, linux, nothing worked.
buying a new nic worked. try getting a cheap network card and see if it works.

but that's the problem. Its not suppose to say 0.0.0.0 as the Gateway. He should add his ip v4 manually eg 192.168.0.1 default gateway 192.168.0.2
Then go to network sharing and add them both to his adapter.

At this point troubleshooting at that level is irrelevant.

If he has a 169.254.x.x IP from failing to grab a DHCP address, it's going to say 0.0.0.0. It's not a bug, no default gateway information was provided. If he's not getting a DHCP address, there's more troubleshooting to be done elsewhere. The Windows gateway simply pulls it's information from the DHCP offer.

Its a problem since Vista because Microsoft deciced to make the default routes 0.0.0.0 persist in the routing table instead of just being bound to the network adapter.
