What is VID? p45 overclock Q6600 1.2500VID

Hi guys!

I got my Q6600 G0 1.2500VID ready to OC... Lapped, MX-2 on hyper 212+ push/pull with 2k RPM fans. Also my Asus P5Q pro turbo is a great motherboard and i heard that P45 mobo and especially my mobo are very very great to oc a 775 CPU.

I need to know, what should i put as Vcore?? with my VID and my board. I think 1.4v for 3.6 GHz isn't so bad?

How does VID help? I still doesn't understand that.. But now i know i must OC that CPU because hes made for it. Untill i get a new platform at the end of summer...

Thanks everyone and hope ill get help

VID = Voltage Identification. It's the lowest possible voltage(according to Intel's specs) required for your CPU to run at stock. Generally speaking, the lower the VID the more headroom you have for overclocking.

When I had a q6600 g0(VID: 1.325) It needed 1.425v for 3.4GHz using the same motherboard you have. Most q6600s I've seen topped out at around 3.4-3.6GHz, so well done you may even be able to squeeze out a few more MHz.

1.25V is a pretty good VID. A lower VID means you have more room to increase the voltage to reach desired clocks. For 3.6Ghz I think you're probably looking at ~1.425-1.45V in most cases.
