Yeah if it was only games I would probably be more likely to use Linux only and deal with it. However I also use photoshop and illustrator and lightroom. I know there are replacements for those but I actually spent a good deal of time in school learning how to use adobe apps and it makes me hestitant to change. Plus I need itunes for my ipad/iphone. I wish I could go Linux only it is a pain to maintain two OSs.

Photoshop - GIMP
Illustrator - LibreOffice?
Banshee syncs with iDevices

As to the "I lurned it in skool", if they taught you how to do stuff in photoshp, you can do the same stuff in GIMP. It might have a differnet name, and it might not be as polished, but it will work.

Yeah I know if I spent more time with gimp I would probably get used to it. I have played with it a bit but was not immediately drawn to it. I do not think there is anyway to do iOS updates without itunes which is kind of an issue.

Thats kind of my point though. If it wasn any one of those things could change everything and work around it all but all together I am better of using both.

Next time I get a phone I will probably go with a droid phone. At the time there didn't seem to be as good of droid powered phones as there are now. I only have the ipad because I got it for free.
I like them both though despite the poor Linux support. Besides it gives me a bit of apple experience to go with the windows and Linux.

Inkscape maybe, but LibreOffice isn't even close in my opinion. Although I only looked at it for 10 minutes.

As far as Gimp. I'm in the same boat where "I lurned it in skool", and Gimp just aggravates me when I try to use it. Things I get done in 10 minutes in Photoshop take me forever in Gimp. There are even some features I tried finding in Gimp, but didn't see them, such as "save for web and devices".

I know I could take the time to learn it, and customise it to be more like Photshop (mostly switching keyboard shortcuts), but it seems pointless to me. Especially when in the workplace, people expect you to know how to use Photoshop. Any tips and tricks you learn from co-workers will be in Photoshop. So why bother? It's much easier to just use wine, or boot into Windows/ OS X. Although I do understand not wanting to maintain two diferent OS's, and Photoshop on wine isn't as smooth as it could be.

I would really like it if Adobe would just support Linux already. Kind of hoping that Google will make Linux popular enough that Adobe will start porting things.

Now keep in mind, I don't hate Linux. I'm enjoying it more each day. I just really don't like Gimp. Getting me to use it is like getting a Linux user to enjoy Windows. It just doesn't work that way even if you can accomplish the same tasks on each system.

You're still using GIF images?! It's TWO THOUSAND ELEVEN!

If you really want to do this, go to Images > Mode > Indexed..., set your options, then hit File > Save As...

Make sure to do Edit > Undo after you save the abomination.

Haha, GIF still has it's uses sometimes.

Save for web supports other formats as well though (including PNG), and gives you nice interface showing you previews of the image quality, and plenty of options for what colours it uses in the file. Even gives you an estimate of how long it will take to download at different speeds. Anything to make it smaller, and load faster.

I try out what you mentioned though to see how it compares.
