It would be horrible if it had a compatibility issue with such new hardware!

Sounds like the card has problems itself? Test on another system if possible to narrow it down.

good luck

You can UL & OC the hell out of these cards, and your going to see ~3-4fps difference, its not even worth it, if you can't play your games at a reasonable fps with this card, unlocking it is not going to make it playable with 3 extra fps...waste of time (aka a fad)

How do you stop these cards from downclocking?
When I'm playing the Witcher 2 I see the core clock going up than down to compensate for different loads. But i would think keeping it at the OC'd clocks would prove better performance just like keeping CPU at the OC'd clock.

+20 PowerTune, I don't really know why but I can't set it to +20 anymore, probably because AB doesn't work that well with the 11.5a drivers, the CCC flickers like crazy and if I try to set the +20 it uses the 840Mhz clock that is set at CCC.

(6950 is OC'd to stock 6970 speeds- you can go higher)

minimum FPS from 52-58

Up 6 frames

Average FPS

57-63

Up 6 frames

I don't accept minimum of 52 but will accept 58 so yeah.......

That's worth it to someone running a single card and by no means a fad.

Actually, there is 1fps difference between the fully unlocked with OC, and regular OC there according to those random benchmark scores provided, assuming they're legit lol. I concur, generally speaking, bit of a waste? lol Considering you can brick your card and/or shorten its lifespan.
I thought you meant they OC bad and there was no point.

misunderstanding there.

I see what you are saying pretty much no point doing the unlock yes.

Never heard of anyone bricking a card with a shader unlock. Except fools trying to flash their single bios card but that's just plain risky.

So you're saying there's no difference between the 6950 and 6970? Unlocking the shaders makes it exactly like the 6970 except for slightly different memory timings.

The GPU is the same (though the 6950 may have been binned lower, but they seem to be hitting 6970 speeds with no problem), the RAM is definitely cheaper RAM (different RAM chips, 5ghz instead of 5.5ghz or whatever), but it's still fast, and usually overclocks to 6970 specs (speed wise, timings who knows, voltage I can't say), the shaders can be unlocked in most 6950s to the same quantity as 6970. I believe the GPU is volted to 1.175 stock on the 6970 instead of 1.100 on the 6950, but I only own two 6950s, no 6970 for me.

I've unlocked and overclocked my two 6950s, put them under water, and they run fast, cool, and happy, for a lot less than 6970s would have cost me in the same setup. The price difference between the 6950s and 6970s offset the cost of watercooling the 6950s.
