HD 6870 and ASUS M3N72-D

I know this may not be the exact place to be asking this question but you guys are my best bet for knowledge on this subject at this point. I looked around the site and couldn't find anything on this.

I recently upgraded from a 7800GT(I know) to a HD6870. The only problem is that the HD6870 is not being detected by my motherboard. I verified that the card is working by putting it on an older Asus A8N-SLI Premium board that I had laying around. For whatever reason the board doesn't see the 6870 and goes straight to the onboard nForce750a SLI. Windows will load and work just fine but the 6870 fans are spinning at max the entire time and you can't find it in the device manager.

The card is installed correctly and I have tried it on both PCI-E slots on the board. The bios and drivers are the most up to date. I have more than the minimum required power and have taken off all additional hardware like my soundblaster X-fi card. I've reset the CMOS and have tried earlier versions of the BIOS as well. The M3N72-D doesn't let you completely disable the onboard graphics, it only allows you to select AUTO and pick your first priority which I have set as PCI-E.

Has anyone every experienced anything like this? Does anyone have any ideas as to where I can find a solution?

I really don't want to have to buy another mobo if possible. I would rather trade the card for an nvidia if it comes to that.

You mentioned you tried an earlier bios. Have you tried updating your BIOS to the latest?

according to this, It isn't a happy bunny with ATI.

You could post something to Asus to get an update done.

I've contacted both ASUS and XFX (Card Manufacture) via their online support functions. I don't know how much effort ASUS is really going to put into this because the motherboard is a couple years old now.

I know there has to be a way to make this work. It seems ridiculous that this should even be an issue.

Unfortunately if it's imcompatible with the bios there isn't a way to get it to work. Not unless you know how to recode your BIOS with the right information, you won't get it to work.

Well in that case, if anyone has a free or nearly free mobo sitting around that will work with my Athlon X2 6000+ and this 6870 I would really appreciate it. I'll pay for the shipping.

I'd hate to be in that situation.. I'll look around my basement and see if I can rip something out of an old computer to help you out.
