Upcoming case upgrade/mods

Currently my rig is housed in a NZXT Gamma and cooled mainly be fans and a Coolermaster Geminii S for the CPU. While I love my Gamma case I have run into its shortcomings from time t time specifically the fact that the SATA connectors on the motherboard are very hard to access.

On another note I have been wanting to upgrade to liquid cooling for a long while both to achieve higher performance and to quiet down the rig as it can be hard to sleep in my dorm during the academic year (small room that reflects the fan hum all over the place).

I have decided to upgrade to a NZXT Phantom either the white or black model (still at a toss up) and to install a RASA 240 liquid cooling system for the CPU, my GPU does fin with temps right now and I would expect that to change in a larger case. Since I am an engineering student and between myself and my peers I have sufficient experience with Solidworks and access to various CNC machines I may manufacture a full card waterblock for my GPU but that is yet to be decided.

Another part of this upgrade will include some modding to add to the aesthetic qualities of the case. First thing is the large fan on the side will be turned into a window using plain transparent acrylic. The next part will be pseudo cable sleeving, and by this I mean that I will be making custom extension cables for my PSU so that all visable cable connecting to the mobo will look sleeved and slick, I will also be sleeving all the case wiring myself (reset power and LED wires). I will be placing UV lights int he top of the case as the connectors for my extensions will be UV activated blue to match my GA-X58A-UD3R R2.0 mobo as well as lighting the UV activated blue tubing I will be using for the rasa kit.

My current build is my first from scratch brand new PC build (I have been an exclusive mac user since birth dabling in PCs salvaged from dumpsters and using linux etc) so I have a few questions as I have never taken a mod like this on and I would not like to screw up my precious components.

Questions:
What tubing is safe to use with the Rasa kit that will glow blue when shined on by a UV Light?

Is there an online store for colored molex connectors that isn't stupidly expensive (frozenCPU what the hell) ?

I am unclear as to how UV lighting works for PC case mods please enlighten me.

What sort of crimper would I need for making custom cables?

Would it be cheaper to just ebay some NZXT extension cables and change the molex connectors to colored ones?

thanks everybody

1. Just ask the guys at the water cooling club. Primoflex seems to be the recommended brand.

2. Not really. Just look at performance-pcs.com. Frozencpu is your best bet, though.

3. Not sure about this. clarify?

4. If you're sleeving a PSU, you don't need a crimper. If you're making your own cables, just go to radio shack or homedepot for a generic crimper.

5. No, you'd end up buying extensions + molex connectors instead of just molex connectors

Thanks so far!

I think I'll just grab a crimper and get the connectors and all the required hardware and just make them myself. Does anywhere charge less than a dollar per connector ? It seems like a lot for plastic.

My real question for the UV lighting really is where do I get the lights? Do they come attached to fans? If they come on fans that would make things very organized because I could have those fans on the radiator mounted in the top and the light would shine down on everything.

So I have decided that I will not be doing any sleeving for my PSU as I plan to upgrade to a Corsair 850 Watt down the road when I install a Tri-SLI set up.

upgrades are as follows:
- RASA RS240 kit
- RASA RS120 Rad (for later added GPU block)
- Blue UV tubing
- NZXT Phantom (still can't pick between black or white)
- Custom Window mod to the Phantom (Acrylic already purchased!)
- Blue UV LED 120 MM fans for push pull configuration on both Radiators
- Fan grate on back of fantom to be removed with dremel
- Enzotech compression fittings for all Liquid cooling components

Down the road I may do sleeving or make custom extensions to give a pseudo sleeved look, I just rather put the cash into components that will give me more performance boost over aesthetics at the moment, however by no means necessary do I plan to have a messy wiring job , everything will be meticulously laid out and ziptied with bluezipties matching the plastics on the GA-X58-UD3R.
