Should a storage HDD be labeled a "System" drive?

I had Windows XP installed on my home server. I decided to upgrade to Windows 7 Ultimate.

During installation, I formatted my OS drive and left my storage drive untouched.

When I made a new partition in the installation menu, the new partition was labeled "System". So was my storage drive, which I though was kinda weird.

After installation, when I tried to run any .exe I would get this following message:

"this application failed to start because side-by-side-configuration is incorrect"

I could not do anything, download anything. Run anything without getting that message. So I am currently re-installing Windows again.

Could wiping the OS drive of XP somehow caused this problem? Was the OS drive and the storage drive somehow linked?

I do not understand what is going on and it might be totally obvious, and it might not. I have no clue

Any suggestions help.

weiird. everything works now. Must have been an error during installation. I have begun to get used to installations always going smoothly.

i guess an installation error was bound to happen.
