Topre vs MX blue

Thread Starter
Right now I'm contemplating between the two for my next keyboard. The topre will be a Realforce 86UB and the MX blue will be a Filco. I have experience with MX blue switches, but not with topre's.

I know both are completely different boards, but could members with personal experience with both of them tell me which is more pleasurable to type on and why? The two have become very intertwined in my mind because while MX blues are so fun to type on.. topre's are said to feel like magical 'boob clouds'. Price is not a contributing factor in this discussion. Thanks!

Are you gaming on them? I hadn't used them but if you look at how they're made here and here you can see the Topre is just purely designed for typing as the actuation force for the keys on the side (Where your pinky is most likely to use), the forces are lighter.

I'm an occasional MMO gamer so both switches are very plausible for me for gaming. I'm an 8-finger typist and I only use my pinkies for buttons such as the left shift, enter, and backspace.

What I am looking for is people's opinions on which is funner to type on. I know what I'm asking for is subjective, but I think different opinions can influence my decision for my next purchase.

By virtue of not having the double-tap problem that the Blue Cherry has, I find the Topres far better for gaming than the Blue Cherry.

In regards typing, it's really a matter of preference. I've typed on both and liked them both. I have a slight preference for the Topres because they are very smooth and light. Blue Cherry switches have more tactility, and they bounce back harder, but they feel rather plasticky to me. I also don't have much faith in their longevity, but I guess that's more of a technical issue.

Smooth and light are correct words to describe this keyboard. Right now I'm typing this on the Realforce and I couldn't be happier.

Cherry Blues are definitely funner to type on.

Topres are smooth and somewhat boring.

There's always more room for another keyboard in my growing collection redface.gif Blue's are next on my list.

Pics are coming up tonight once I get home!

Did you get the one with uniform weighting or the mixed one with less for the pinky keys?

Does anyone know if Topre makes an all 55 gram 103U in white? It doesn't appear on the Elitekeyboards website but I know they make a much larger variety of keyboards than the ones available there.

^ He got the 86UB with variable weight (link). wink.gif

And I've only seen a 45g uniform weight in white.
