MSI GTX 580 Lightning vs. EVGA DS Superclocked vs. ASUS ENGTX580 DCII - Page 4

I'd like to offer my $.02 on the noise issue: I own asus 580 dcu ii. I also own two msi 580 lightings and they are LOUD. Coming from dcu ii, I got so used to quiet card under the load literally to the point that I don't WANT to overclock lightings just because of the noise.

Also, I find the fan profile on lightings way too aggressive, I had to limit it with custom curve in AB not to exceed 60%, just to make it bearable.

Again, this is my subjective opinion (and one card vs sli isn't a fairest comparison either). But I find lightings very loud.

Sorry but if you buy the most powerful single gpu on the planet and expect it to be silent when overclocking it then you are probably doing something wrong.

The Noiselevel is the ONLY advantage of the DCII and frankly I don´t believe you can distinct 28db from 30db to be honest.

So unless you are a bat I suggest you are pretty much on the single side of actually being able to tell the noise difference:helpingha

Did you ever stop to think that not every fan and test situation are alike. What the person here is using and what a reviewer is using could be different. Maybe this batch had a better fan mounted in place, so the fan is less noisy foe the reviewers while OPs fans were dented up in travel, were a bad batch, and OP is open air. Really no reason to bash someone he's giving his input. He owns them, it makes him a far more credible source. Just because theory dictates something, doesn't mean in reality it will happen.

And some people like OP may prefer silence even with overclocking, so the DCII is the better option.

Not bashing anybody?

But I expect a certified and professional reviewer to have more accurate and sophisticated sound measurement and monitoring devices than the member that offered his input:)

I am aware that not all conditions are the same that is why a reviewer measures the sound in db;)

And the sound difference measured was two db.
The human ear cannot distinct 28db from 30db.

And I strongly doubt the OP would consider that redundant factor strong enough to overwhelm overclocking features (switches,VRM,phases, indipenantly powered RAM,PWM,core and all individually controllable and measurable)

The Lightning is just the superior card , period.

Have you actually heard either of these cards in person? You have multiple times now discounted the advice or opinions of people that have used both cards because you think you know better based on the videos you have seen or reviews you have read. That seems like an incredibly foolish thing to do.

It's not a matter of who has the most accurate measurements, if you can tell one is noticeably louder then it's noticeably louder, nobody that has posted their opinions has any reason to lie. And once again what the heck makes you think that you know better than people that have actually used the freaking cards in question!?!?

Since you're such a freaking fan of reviews that make you think that you know everything about a card here read this review where the measure the Lightning at over 10dbA louder than the DCII. What now? Is that review wrong in addition to all the people that have actually used the card? Just because you know better? If you know for such a fact which one is better then why would you ave to make your own freaking thread asking peoples opinion here? Obviously because you had no clue then, and now just because you read a few reviews and watched a Linus video suddenly your an expert on these cards having never used either of them.

Look at this thead.
YESTERDAY he knew very little about any of these cards, and today he knows enough to tell people that have actually used them that they are wrong.

Wow relax a little ninja.gif

What part of db don´t you understand?
The review´s outcome was that under load the DCII was 2db quieter than the Lightning.
I don´t care what you sense as louder?
It is a fact according to this review in which sound measuring devices were used that there is a 2db difference.
And it is also a fact that you physically cannot distinct between 28db and 30db.

So what is your problem right now?

This should clarify:

Try 14. Not 2, 14. And yes I know how decibels work... and what's more I knew how they worked since before yesterday.

My problem is you acting like literally an overnight know-it-all and telling people on multiple occasions that they are wrong and you with your elementary, at best, understanding of the cards are right.

OMG you continue posting stupid videos as explanation for all the ignorance you have been presenting as fact.

Again not sure what is ignorant about a measuring system.

In our world we use certain measurements and dimensions to determine the length, height, weight or sound of something.

Each one has it´s own system and measuring values.

For sound we use db or dezibel.

I am not trying to tell people what to do or act like I know everything about the cards over night but I am just presenting simple facts you obviously cannot deal with. ninja.gif

The review´s result was a 2db (dezibel) difference between the DCII and Lightning.
And again it is a medical fact that 2db difference cannot percepted by the human ear.

So what exactly is the reason for your outburst?

I am just displaying these facts.
If another review shows a 10db difference that is fine also I didn´t say the values were absolute.

But your ridiculous attempt of disproving a professionally sound measured test result by saying "Have you ever heard them in person?" is just nonsense lol?smile.gif

Let´s just concentrate on the actually important factors of the card.
And the OP has stated overclocking is important to him.

So there is no question about it that the Lightning is gonna be his pick.

And also If I were you I would not be so fast to degrade reviewers?
They are specialized people that use their knowledge and experience to give people valuable advice.

There is nothing wrong about this video:
[ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=foCZWEa0GSU[/ame]

It just shows all the features, and goodies about this card.

If you cannot deal with that you are not forced to watch it helpinghand.gif

Asus - Best cooled 580
MSI - Best overclocking 580 (i think)
EVGA - Lifetime warranty, usually run hot but are good cards
