[BLOGTechnical] Skype installs EasyBits Go CrapWare with out user permission - Page 2

Thread Starter
Alright I'm going to get some shuteye now and won't be on for a good while. So if a mod wants to bump my post down and replace it with someone's else who will keep it up dated it'd be cool. Just wanted to make sure people were aware about this nasty little software install.

And if anyone needs to, jump back to 4.1.0.179 version and uncheck the option to automatically update. It will try to update once after you do that, either on the next application start or a few later. Just cancel it from updating and it will remain 4.1.0.179.

I have found (can't speak for anyone else) this to be the most stable version of Skype. No crashes when gaming, no odd things going on from Skype, and no more upgrades. It's good as is at this version.

You can find this version (4.1.0.179, full standalone install package) on FileHippo

Don't let Skype update itself! It can only wreak havoc! Also exit out completely when you're not using it, as it will use your PC to route it's calls!

I installed skype very recently (last few days) and I don't have this problem. Just started it up and there are no updates either...

I had a popup from skype about some kind of free game app it wanted to offer me. I just clicked on Not interested at all and no problems.
Ya it's not doing it without user permission. A box flashes up and asks you if you want to install this new game service thing and you choose if you want to or not. Happened to me and I choose the option not to install it.

Exactly what I did. Why do people give this app permission to install then after it installed complain "i didnt give it permission, skype is installing viruses and spyware on my computer."

The people complaining are probably mac owners wondering why Mac Defender didn't catch it.

What are people complaining about? I have the most recent version of skype and I don't have this. If I am pretty certain Skype does ask for permission to access third party apps.

And the person complaining about the later versions of skype crashing during games I also have never had this problem and neither have my friends.
