A single Dell UltraSharp U3011 or a 23 inch Eyefinity setup?

I'm having a hard problem choosing! Which would you guys game with? I've never played in Surround or a single resolution of 2560 x 1600. A single u30 costs about the same that I would spend on 3 x 23 inch setup.

At least with one 30" monitor you'll have no compatibility issues. Eyefinity doesn't always work in games. Make sure your PC can handle gaming at 2560x1600 though!
Just for gaming it's hard to say but for work/productivity I will personally never go back to a single monitor setup, even one of such a high resolution.

What 23" monitors are you looking at? The 30" will give you better picture quality unless you're looking at IPS panels for the 23" panels as well.

EDIT: And I agree with Shub, the single panel will definitely give you much less compatibility problems than the Eyefinity setup. You'd probably want to talk to someone with an Eyefinity setup to get a better idea of how good AMD has been about providing support for games that have issues with it though.

i went from 3x 24 1080p monitors to a dell 27" 1440p.

all i can say is. eyefinity is cool and all. but u will get over it easily. half the games i played didnt support eyefinity. and just looked weird. i usually got headaches too.

back to 1 high res screen, and loving it.

so my choice would be the 30", oh i can only imagine how awesome that would be.

I'm building the PC right now. Currently I have the i7 2600k. p8p67 Asus Deluxe Mobo. 8GB corsair dominator. I'm only missing the video cards. I'm leaning towards CF 6970's, but still might make a last minute change to SLI GTX 580 3GB editions. If I go SLI, it's because I want the chance at 3D gaming which I have seen and it's AMAZING. If I did that, then I would go with the 23 inch ASUS 120hz monitors. I'm pretty sure Nvidia does 3 monitors in surround just like ATI does right?

If I go with ATI, then I want to go with IPS panels, and will either do 30 inch or 3 x 23 ultrasharps. Honestly it's a tough choice! I've seen some of the games I like in eyefinity (BC2) and I love the way it looks.

Eyefinity is a gimmick. Get the 30", then later on do a 20/30/20 setup.

Eyefinity is not exactly a gimmick.

Eyefinity is at it's worst in 3x 16:9. Because of the unnaturally wide aspect ratio, it feels unnatural, and it feels much narrower than other eyefinity setups.

I much prefer 3x 4:3 over any other eyefinity setup because it feels taller than 3x 16:9 due to the better aspect ratio, there is less stretching, better aspect ratio, the curvature of the screens around you is much better.

I would STILL take a 30" rather than eyefinity because IMO image quality >>> image quantity

Eyefinity is TERRIBLE.
This is comming from somebody who has it.

DEFFINATLY go with the single good monitor. Although for work and productivity i like 2 Monitors, the third is TOTALY USELESS and normally i don't even use it. (exept for games) which have compatibility issues anyways.
