Sandy Bridge Idle Temps Question?

Thread Starter
Asus Bios lists CPU temps anywhere from 39C to 50C idle.

HWmonitor (CPU ID) has my temps far lower ranging from 29C to 34C on one of the cores. Which one is more accurate.

the bios temp of 50c idle is very high, Must have been the cooler not mounted properly
the HWmonitor temps look more realistic but people generally trust the BIOS more

Idle temp is measured in windows with no significant cpu usage. While your computer is in the BIOS (or UEFI in your case) your computer is not at idle.
Idle doesn't mean much anyways, I would run prime 95 for an hour and report those temperatures.

It usually says 40-42 when I go into bios. And will go up 1-2c if I leave it there.

The HW Monitor has 1 core about 3-4c higher than the others. But with RIFT running at ULTRA settings in the background the CPU temps were in the low 40s.

Ill try the coretemps mod.
