212+ Reduced Cooling w/ 2 Fans

Thread Starter
Hey guys,

I just noticed that with both fans installed on the 212+ (yes in push/pull configuration,) my cooling was about 3 C worse than a single intake fan on the front of the cooler.

My guess is that the rear exhaust fan sat too close to the rear exhaust and the rear-top exhaust fans on the case. I think it created some stale air instead of an even flow. Removing the back exhaust fan from the cooler dropped my idle CPU temps down 3 C and my load temps down 5.

Just an FYI for those that might want to play around with it.

my temps dropped with the second fan on the 212+ and it sat pretty close to the rear fan, but im getting a new case so I will test this again and see what happens

Yeah, I had a spare 120 around and was hoping for what you said, but for some reason it didn't work out for me. Probably the airflow design in my case. Still, this cooler is incredible. Matched with this case, which I think is a huge bargain value, I'm seeing incredibly low temps even at 4.3.

Are the fans matching? I've seen it both ways, depending on the case and the specs of the 2 fans that are close together. Right now I'm running cooler with just a push setup and 2 120s on the top of case for exhaust and the back fan for intake.

What are you using to check the temperatures with?

I might suggest speedfan to check the temp and check the speeds the fans are running too.

Then post the results of both in this thread..

Second, post a picture of the inside of your case in the thread too...

cheers,

Jyk

Make sure your fans are both pointed the same direction. Some people make mistakes by having the fans on the wrong way, defeating the purpose of push-pull.

Yes, I am checking temps/fan speeds with speedfan.

I will post pictures tomorrow when I am able.

Yes, they're pointed in the same way, front intake/back exhaust. I understand it should be better, I am just posting because I found it odd. I think it might be an anomaly of my case and it's design, the second fan maybe causing an area of stagnant air... not sure, just thought I'd share
post #10 of 28
If the second fan moves less air than the first it might impede the air from the other fan but that's the only way I'd see it increasing temps. Well, that or maybe the hub of the other fan blocking airflow or something.
