Need opinions on GPU upgrade.

So I play at 1920 x 1200. Games include BFBC2, Crysis 2, Rift, Dirt 2, Witcher 2, Mass Effect 2, Dragon Age 2, COD MW2+Black Ops, Dead Space 2 and Left 4 Dead 2. I'm having problems with my current 460 like artifacts and freezing almost everyday now. Just need something new that I can max these games out with. Less than $300 is good for me. I've been looking at a lot of 6950 vs gtx 560 but i still can't decide. Help me out guys.

I say hold out until you see a deal for the 6970 for 300. You can get it just gotta keep your eye out. If not go for the 6950, it overclocks like crazy and you can unlock the shaders to a 6970.

You might want to establish what's going on with the 460 first. Sounds like it could be overheating. Have you checked the temps?

Would be a shame to just ditch the card without proper diagnosis?

This is the weird thing temps are fine and it only crashes in Rift and Crysis 2 out of all of my games. Check out what happened yesterday. I load Crysis 2 and before I even moved my guy the green artifacts came up all over the screen and it freezes. I was in the actual game for 1 second. And in Rift it just happens randomly. But check out these reviews for this card I think it was just one of the bad ones. I even redid the thermal paste on it.

Hmm certainly does sound the GPU may be faulty. Can you still RMA it? Get your money back or replacement and sell it. Put that money towards a newer card

crossfire 6850s would be another choice that would set you back around 300...should provide better performance then either 560 or 6950, but it is multi gpu and there is no room for upgradeing

I would go Crossfire 6850.

Only thing to bear in mind though is heat, power consumption and the occasional game incompatibility with CF. Drivers are always updated though.

Your PSU is enough for two 6850s and just make sure you have enough airflow and space in your case (no rhyme intended )
