Aero Effects Failed on Windows 7

Thread Starter
For some reason, Aero visual effects do not work anymore on my Windows 7 system. Here's some info:

  • Desktop Window Manager Service Manager service is running
  • Checked Windowblinds--not at fault
  • Troubleshooter reports that current theme (any theme) does not support Aero
  • Troubleshooter reports that Desktop Window Manager is disabled
    • Reports that the issue has been remedied, yet nothing changes
  • Screen Resolution menu shows "HWP D5259A" instead of "ATI Radeon X1050"
    • Reports that X1050 has nothing attached
      • Forcing to read from X1050's VGA results in black screen
Recently performed these actions that may have caused this:
  • Removed clock battery
  • Changed PWM settings in BIOS
What do?

Go to start->right click on computer->properties->Advanced config->performance-> set it to "best appearance" or "let windows decide"

UPDATE!

Messing with PWM settings and CPU Voltage Regulator overclock settings screw with this.

Still don't know what specific settings cause this, but it may be something in your BIOS.
