SLI Partner with ASUS DCII 580.

My system already has a ASUS DC II 580 SLI setup, but on this current motherboard, it takes up ALL of my room. The two cards are 3 slots each, so.. I have a friend of mine I can sell one of them to, for 480 bucks, so I'm getting another. I know that the DC II is a non-reference card, and it only has 1.5 gigs of memory.

Can I SLI, say..

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...-587-_-Product

or..

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...-579-_-Product

I'm thinking I can put the DC II on the bottom slot, and the knew, 2 slot card, up top. Thoughts, suggestions? I think my main question is, can a reference 580 SLI with a non-reference 580? Can a 580 3 gig SLI with a 1.5gig 580?

I don't know, but I think that the card must be identical.
That is why many people stay away from the DirectCUs, because they use 3 slots!

as long as the gpu's are the same and it has the same memory size, then you should have no problem with sli, manufacturer doesn't matter!

Alright, cool! But what if the memory size isn't the same? Would they flat out not work?

Any 580 will work, though go with something like the TFII or TFIII for better cooling. Reference cards don't do too well on temps above non-reference cards. You can SLI a 3GB 580, but it'd be a waste as you'd only use 1.5GB on each card.

There a particular reason you want to free up slots? Temps higher than you want? Putting the monitor on the bottom card has been known to lower overall temps noticeably. Now, if you need to open up a PCI slot or something, nvm.

I need a PCI slot open for something. The temps are fine, idle at 35-40, and 55 under load. My case is open and right underneath the AC Vent.

I'm not 100% sure, but from my experience, it has not worked.

Here's a thread for an example: http://www.overclock.net/graphics-ca...x-460-1gb.html

You can SLI with any other 580. However, I would go with the MSI one you suggested to try to match your OC on your DC2 as it cools much better then reference.

Alright, I'll give the MSI one a shot. Thanks for the suggestions.
