680i, RAM voltage?

Thread Starter
I recently put together a computer for a friend, using an XFX 680i board. I put in 4 sticks of 1GB DDR2 800 Corsair RAM. I set the RAM voltage manually to 1.8v, which is according to spec.

The other day, while tinkering with the rig, I set board voltages to Auto, and noticed that the board set RAM voltage to 1.85v.

What I'm wondering is, did the board make a good choice? Knowledgeable folks tend to recommend setting RAM voltage to spec, and I also recall that these boards had RAM-frying issues, although I also recall that that may have been for 2.1v+ settings. Is there some reason to set RAM voltage above spec if you're filling all 4 slots of a board, perhaps specifically an nforce/680i board? That is, did the board make a good choice? For now, RAM voltage is set @ 1.8v.

If anyone's curious, it's this RAM:

Thanks for any help/interest.

its perfectly fine to run the ram slightly above spec like what the board did. If anything the extra juice will help in maintaining stability. As far as i know DDR2 is safe up 2.2v, after that things tend to start cooking and the clock is ticking fast on the remaining lifetime of the sticks. a .05V increase is practically nothing.
