i3 2100 - Upgrade to SB

Thread Starter
What are people's opinions on the SB i3 2100?

I want to upgrade to Sandy Bridge, but won't be able to afford the 2500K straight away. The i3, despite the lack of overclocking, seems to wee all over the Core2Duo's and I think my CPU isn't really cutting it much anymore.

Would you say its a good CPU to tie me over for a year or so?

Yes it would. The 2100 is very fast for a dual core and is much faster than the C2D clock per clock but the cost of reselling the 2100 and buying a 2500k makes it not worth it. Just keep your current rig till you have enough for the 2500k.

I think the i3 are fine for a year, then buy a used 2600k when everybody is upgrading to ivy bridge. Just my 2 cents.

I find it fast enough. I just sold my i5-760@4.1ghz system and can't tell the difference with my new system. A ssd disk are more important for total system feel of speed then a fast cpu.

I don't encode videos/render 3d all day long, so the sb i3 are more than ok.
