is it safe to...?

Thread Starter
Well my PSU is extremely loud and irritating, so irritating that i have shoved a pencil in it to make it quiet :/ but it just got super hot. haha. However, I have a antec tri-cool 120mm right here with me. is it safe to replace the fan in the psu with my own fan? also will i need thermal compound for this?

If the fan is the same size then you should be able to with no problems. No thermal compound needed, just make sure you have the psu unplugged and powered off for a good bit before you even try to touch it. Don't touch anything except what is necessary to replace the fan.

I would say it is not safe to replace the fan due to you will have to cut wires...
Wonder if the fan in PSU even has same connector? or same amount of wires?

I seriously wouldnt bother,id buy a new PSU if you can get your hands on enough money.

cutting wires is no big deal if your that hard up for cash and can't afford a decent $60 PSU compared to a $12 fan. Soldering is easy as pie, and a couple little heat shrink tubes and you're good to go...or you can even get solderless crimp connectors.

haha! Just buy a new psu! Before you screwed up with your plans on replacing the fans, without even knowing what soldering is. No offense meant mate.
