Bad company 2 Crossfire produces lower framerates.

Hello!

It's been a good while without any crossfire issues, but this one i can't wrap my head around.
So i've been playing BC2 for a good while, having fun lagging.
I'm running 5770 Crossfire and a Q6600 overclocked to 3,4Ghz.
The issue i'm having is stated in the title, i'm actually playing around 20-40 fps with crossfire enabled. One day i decided to try and disable it since i remember the performance being better when i only had a single card. So i did, and the fps was about 40-60 when roaming around the game. Overall game experience was of course a LOT better.
So i'm wondering, could my cpu actually be the bottleneck here since it can't run the crossfire effectively when the game, known to be CPU intensive, is exhausting my processor?
Has anyone experienced something similiar and overcome his problem?
I have a format c planned anyway in the next few days since my pc has run a good few years without one and probably would like one, maybe that will yield some results.

Wouldn't you get no FPS change from1 5770 to 2 5770 if your CPU was the bottleneck? I don't know much about crossfire but it sounds like some issues with that instead.

I mean I don't think crossfire is THAT intensive.

what drivers?

crossfirex makes a huge difference in BC2, I don't see why that Q6600 would be a problem.

When you are running the game check what the two cards are running at.

I had 11.5 at time I started hacking away at this yet another crossfire issue.

After that I tried 10.5 since people were reporting the best fps with that one, didn't change a thing as I recall.

Now i'm back to 11.5 since my league of legends started spazzing out telling me I need a newer driver and I didn't see any improvement with the older ones.
It seemed as the older drivers crashed at some point in LoL although I didn't see an error report.

I also tried using different crossfire profiles with RadeonPro in BC2, that didn't seem to have any effect on the fps either, with the ones that worked.

Last I checked the GPU usage with RadeonPro with the in-game overlay usage meter which seemed to peak at about 30-35% usage for both cards during playing, intrestingly enough I even witnessed both cards being at 0% at times, but I guess that's rather the problem with the RadeonPro overlay software, since at the time usage was 0% I didn't witness a fps drop.
With one card enabled the usage is about 80%, I guess that's good enough considering it's a port.

Also a curious problem that seems to happen with both drivers, less on the older one is loading screen cursor lockup.
The cursor locked up less on the older drivers, with the newer ones the cursor pretty much stays unresponsive for the first 95% of the loading, then i can check my scores and stuff.

I see about 60%+ gains in BC2 with Crossfirex and even more when I OC my cards.

Well, you are running an i7, which is more than enough for your cards.
My main problem is that could my Q6600 really be slowing my crossfire down since crossfire does need a bit of cpu power and BF2 is a ridiculous port, so i'm thinking it may be eating up all of my cpu leaving no room for crossfire.

I have too heard people reporting very good crossfire gains in the game.

Heck, the gain has to be good since ati claims it to be "Gaming evolved", therefore ati-supported.

Oh and to add to my previous posts, I used matching catalyst profiles with the drivers.

Dunno about this one. I have no issues with CrossFireX in Battlefield: Bad Company 2. It's not the cards for definite (unless they're faulty).

What settings do you play at? What drivers and CAP are you currently using?

You could try applying the 11.5b hotfix to see if that fixes anything. A long shot but you never know.
