When Upgrading from an ATI card to an ATI ... - Page 2

Sounds like the install failed. If CCC.exe & MOM.exe are not running, then Catalyst Control Center is not working at all. Go ahead and uninstall ATi Catalyst Install Manager in Control Panel. Reboot, and then reinstall 11.4 Preview again.

To answer your question, no. It's not absolutely necessary to have them running. The card works off of the driver, not CCC.exe or MOM.exe (MOM is simply the monitoring program for Catalyst). Catalyst (aka: Vision) does need to run to unlock the voltage controls for overclocking though. It's been a long time, so I don't recall if ATi Tray Tools can unlock the voltage control by itself (with the 6850). That program may be the source of your problems with CCC.

I would uninstall that as well, at least until you get everything else working correctly. Which version of ATi Tray Tools are you running?

I actually haven't installed ATi Tray tools yet.

My plan is to just freshly install the 11.4 package, and, assuming that CCC won't work, I'll just use ATi Tray tools if I need it for changing the resolution, tweaking, etc.

I'm not going to bother with overclocking this card because I don't think I can... This has caused me a lot of headaches, but I'm willing to settle with no overclocking and no CCC, as long as the video card is gonna work. All I really want is a working display driver, lulz.

P.S. Gave you rep for all the help. This surely is a helpful community.

You're very welcome. Don't get frustrated with it. Conflicts sometimes happen, and pinpointing them can be a serious pain. As for the oc'ing. Enjoy the card for a bit, and play around with it later. It's not everyones 1st priority, unless you just like the e-peen, or are into benchmarking. Really, it's not a huge difference in game performance with powerful cards. Just a few frames per second.

In some circumstances though, it can make the difference between playable, and unplayable. Specifically, when high resolution multi-monitor setups come into play. Anyway, if you need anything else. Just pm me & we'll figure it out.
