Estimated Performance Gains

Thread Starter
I was wondering what kind of increases I would be noticing from my current rig when I finish building my sig rig.

Current:
CPU: AMD 64 X2 5000+ Black Edition @ 2.6
Motherboard: ASUS M2A-VM
Memory: 2GB OCZ Platinum DDR2 400 & 2 GB DDR2 Melco 400
GPU: XFX 9800 GTX+ 512MB DDR3

Any other specs needed just ask. & Thanks for the help.

From a 9800 GTX+ to an XFX 6870???

This is what i assume your asking.

I'll just break it down for ya so you can see.

First, lets start with the Memory Bandwidth.

Your going be be about doubling up performance here from about 70~ GB/s to over 130GB/s.

Your FLOPS (FLoating point OPerations per Second) (basically operating speed in time) is quadrupled from around 500~ to over 2000

As for fill rates, your going to be seeing about double the speed in pixel fill rates, and a very slight increase in texture fill rate if my memory serves me correctly my 9800GTX+ was about 46000M texels per second, while your 6870 will give ya about 50000ish.

Aside from that, VRAM doubles, and is run is DDR x 4 on the 6870 (GDDR5) 900MHz x 4

So, yeh I'd guess around a 50-60% performance increase depending on the game. Obviously some will differ especially those in which run requiring certain hardware (PhysX, DX11, Open GL 4.2, Etc...)

Hope that helps dude

A massive difference, you should have no problems playing 1080p smoothly with great settings.

Lots of good hardware choice's too

your CPU compute rate will greatly increase(Gflops)..allover gaming multimedia office and internet gauge/performance will greatly improve coming from what you currently have..it would be around 75% increase not to mention your potential for OC headroom..

Pretty much this! ^^

You'll notice very large performance gains, especially once you OC the CPU/GPU
