seasonic x750 CPU + Crossfire problem

Thread Starter
Ok So I was building a comp for my friend and he had the new seasonic x750 power supply.
So he has two 6950s so he needs 4 pci-e connectors but theres only two 12 pin slots in the powersupply in the top row - but there needs to be three 12 pin slots in the top row in order to plug in both the cards and the cpu thing for the mobo.
The CPU slot on the powersupply is divided into 8 pin and 4pin but the cpu cable is not separated.... it has 8pinand empty 4 pin thing put together so i cant plug it into the socket in the powersupply

it is kind of hard to explain but did anyone else have problem plugging in both two pcie cables and the cpu cable into the powersupply? I've been trying to somehow plug all three cables into the powersupply but there is no way

The seasonic can support what you are asking of it, I believe the problem is you are trying to use the additional EPS 8 pin CPU power which does take up a PCI power. There is also a EPS 8 pin power that plugs into a dedicated CPU port which is what you will want to use.

My seasonic X650 came with multiple CPU power connectors, one four-pin, two 8-pin. Can you send us a pic or something? It's a bit hard to understand what your problem is. On the other hand, your avatar has brought great joy and merriment to my screen.

I own the x750 as well, it comes with all the cabling required for 2 6950s.

EDIT: I've found a picture of an older(?) x750 that has a totally different layout to mine. Does yours look like this?

Seasonic%20X-750xx.jpg

It should look like this:

As you can see in the second picture there is an 8pin CPU connector as well as 2 12-pin PCI-E connectors (2x6pin). I'm not sure what the first picture is, as it is a seasonic X750 apparently, but I've not seen it before.

The first one is not a x750, you want to plug in the EPS CPU 12v 8 pin into the one that says just "CPU" not "PCIe/CPU 8 pin". You see how the "CPU" part has a 8 pin and a 4 pin? you want to plug it into the 8 pin, it's as simple as that. The part that says "PCIe/CPU 8 pin" is for if you have a motherboard that can take 2 8 pins and want to use both, so you would use "CPU" and "PCIe/CPU 8 pin" but for your needs you just use the 8 pins under "CPU".

The top one is a Seasonic X-400 or 460.

Ah ok, well for some reason the picture was labelled as an x750, so I thought potentially that was somehow related to the OPs problem, but I guess not. The x750 is pretty clearly labelled for its power connectors.

you are plugging it in all wrong

take both the 12 bins and plug those in
those are for the gpu

there is an 8pin next to like the 10 pin
that 8pin is for the cpu

the 10 + 16 pin is for the 24 pin connector

you can only run 2x 12pin and 1x8pin or
2x8pin and 1x12pin
