This is a game that, as I am sure you know, has been in development for a long time. It is on an older engine and is definitely not going to be graphically demanding. This will be easy to run.

That game with the new Frostbite engine IS looking like it will be pretty demanding. What it will take to run at higher resolutions like 2560x1440 and above is yet to be seen. This might just push that 570 though.

Actually no. I'm pretty disappointed but they are making this a multi-platform game and it is looking to be not nearly as advanced graphically as the games that came before it. Morrowind was AMAZING when it launched and Oblivion was punishing. Unfortunately they are designing Skyrim to run on the same 5 year old console that its predecessor did. This one almost assuredly will not tax your rig.

As for older titles that I might want to go back and play....Mass Effect 1&2, Borderlands, Crysis 2 after the DX11 patch is out...
So far so good. The only titles I see that may give you any trouble are BF3 and perhaps Crysis 2 after the patch, although Crysis 2 is easier to run than Crysis.

I think you'll be in pretty good shape with your existing card at 2560x1440.

Get a U2711, when BF3 comes out pick up a 2nd 570. The U2711 is pure awesomeness.

I meant that he shouldn't pay more for something that is effectively worse. Don't waste money on a 27" 1080p. If you REALLY want 27", do it right.

You gotta be stupid to buy a 16:10 monitor for gaming in 2011. Who the heck wants to get involved in loss in Field of view, black bars and stretched image unless you really need to?

27" 2560x1400 or 27" 1920x1080. Thats two good resolutions for gaming. If you have the money go for 2560x1440. 1920x1080 27" is great as well though.

Both 2560x1440 and 1920x1080 is far better than 1920x1200 for gaming.

The latter two don't even exist, aside from two games that I know of that do black bars, which are fixable through config files.

The FOV loss is minimal. I'd rather take the increased image clarity that 1920x1200 provides.

Not true. There are plenty of games which will show black bars on 16:10 displays. The Witcher 2 and Assassins Creed Brotherhood are just two of them.

The loss in FOV is really important. In a game like starcraft 2 it is crucial.

1920x1080
No problems. Great FOV. Decent Clarity

1920x1200 Alot of problems. Poor FOV. Decent clarity

2560x1440
No problems. Great FOV. Great Clarity.

That I know of, I said. Haven't even played the two games you mentioned there

No it's not. The aspect ratio difference is so minimal that it doesn't even matter.

A good mouse and keyboard matter a lot more in SC2 than a 16:9 screen.

You're fooling yourself if you think 16:9 matters more than a tiny amount. The only real use for 16:9 in gaming is to allow for more immersive gaming. It can't make you better.

Now, good mouses and headphones and especially GOOD displays (regarldess of aspect ratio) help a lot. By good displays, I mean high end CRT monitors and 120hz LCDs, in this scenario.

I don't see why? 27" is too big for gaming and I think most would agree.

My suggestion. If you buy 1920x1080 instead of 1920x1200 you will have money to buy the mouse and keyboard too. If you buy 1920x1200 you dont.

Seriously. This shouldnt even need to be discussed in 2011. 16:9 is the best aspect ratio for games so 2560x1440 and 1920x1080 should be the only options really.
