Fan Undervolting / Noise / RPM ??

Okay, I have a few questions about fans.

Let's consider the popular soon to come GT 2150 fan. It's operation voltage is 5-13.2 V.

1) I assume the 13.2 V will provide the 2150 rpm. But 5 V is roughly 38% of 13.2 V.
Does that mean the fan can go down as low as 820 rpm (38% of 2150)?

2) The GT 800 is claimed to whisper by at 9 dBA.
So if I get that GT 2150 throttled down to 800 rpm, will it have a noise level similar to the GT 800 ?

3) I am looking at the Rheosmart 3 or 6 to control my fans.
In his review of the Rheosmart 3, Martin advises to run no more then 10 W per channel in spite of the 30 W per channel claim of the manufacturer.
The GT 2150 has a running current of 0.123 Amp.
I calculate that to be 1.5 Watt.
This would mean I could control 6 fans per channel.
Is my math/thinking correct?
Cuz I'm kinda dumb about electricity.

Yes, you're correct. But the starting voltage of those fans are higher when you power up the system. About .390Amps each I think. Search within overclock.net

Well I made a mistake, Martin recommends only 5 W !! From the MML site:

Quote:
Overall, a great and low cost product to give you PWM like fan control of lighter loads. I would recommend it for 5W per channel for full control. You could probably do more, but I was only successful in my light 4W test load in making use of the full PWM conversion feature and heat was also fairly comfortable at that lighter level.
Only 5 W per channel, that really isn't much.
Dude, even a puny PWM header off the mobo runs 12 W !!!!

And in reality, the claimed starting current for the GT 2150 is 0.53 A ( or 6.36 W ).
So if we go by starting Watts, the Rheosmart can't even handle a single fan.
And if we go by running current ( 1.53 W ) each channel should handle 3 fans.

I'm beginning to think that Rheosmart controller is a piece of @#&%
Beef, my hamster spinning in his wheel would perform better ... prolly could hook up 4-5 fans to Beef.

I'm probably a bit conservative, but my numbers were running current, not startup. I think the problem with heat becomes the running current. I'm running two yates per channel on my rheosmart and it's been working just fine. They each draw around 2 watts per fan, so it's a nice small load. I didn't test anything in between, but I know that 4 watts works fine, and 20 watts was too much for PWM to continue working.

A lot of the heat generated depends on how much you undervolt. Reducing to 10V is a lot less demand on the controller than going down further.etc.

GT2150 running current rating is .123 or 1.5 Watts. I'm sure you could run at least 2-3 fans per channel and likely more. The rheosmart usually begins in manual mode (high speed) until the software kicks PWM setting down, so I don't think you have to worry too much about startup current.
