weird hwmonitor temp, help plz

Thread Starter
hi everyone, i've always tested my oc stability with prime95 and speedfan to check temp but i just got hwmonitor and now i don't understand, i was always checking the two temps labelled temp 1 in speed fan because they were the one really changing. temp 2 is always at -128 so i suppose its a non working sensor or something like that, temp 3 is my gpu and HD is my hard drive(lol) and i never gave much attention to core since it was always at 0 or sometime it go between 15 and 25. but now i saw in hwmonitor that my 4 core are staying at 14c using prime95 while MB temp would go up and cpu showing 184w!?!?! since its an unlocked x2, x is originaly 80 tdp and my MB supports only 140, is it dangerous? i need explanation about hwmonitor info plz.

I'm no AMD wiz but I think the sensors get out of wack once you unlock the extra cores/cache.

Out of curiosity, does HWiNFO32 give you the same temperature readings?

dont worry about it i used to get some weird temps with that program

check core temp

core temp is always very low as i said and even sometimes at 0 wich is impossible, i mean why would hwmonitor say that my cpu sensor are on MB and that cpu temp stays at 14c?

Use HWMonitor for temps & Vcore, the other board specific voltages don't seem very accurate (at least i hope their not) as they seem to be difference everytime i bloody turn on my machine lol.

But you can rest assured that you don't have -5 volts lol

thx but is it really my motherboard that is over heating or its just sort of werid problem that make any program think that my cpu sensor are some onboard sensor and overiding any other mb temp sensor

When your AMD CPU is unlocked the temp sensors, no longer work, your best bet are the mobo sensors (THRM TMPIN0) or maybe a temp probe.

Yes, unlocking cores dissables the temp sensors in the chip. Here is the best way for you to predict your core temps.

Turn off core unlocking and go back to X2.
I am not sure about your board, but my guess is that TMPIN0 is the CPU socket and TMPIN2 is your motherboards VRM's. THRM is an unknown to me, but looks like it is still your CPU socket even though it shows a 1C variance from TMPIN0.
Benchmark the chip while using it in X2 state and measure the variance between your core temps and your cpu socket. For example; if core 0,1 are at 50C and cpu socket is at 55C, then you need to subtract 5C from TMPIN0 to get a decent estimate of your actual core temps.

The bottom line is, no software will accurately tell your what your core temps are while unlocking to X3 or X4. That is the best way to tell. 55C is not extremely hot on Air or an H50. I bet your core temps are about 5-6C lower than your socket temp is though.

EDIT: Wattage on HWMonitor is inaccurate all together. It does a decent job estimating, but is not actual. What clocks and voltages are you using right now?

EDIT2: Be very careful overclocking this chip! Your board does not have a great power phase to handle high overclocking. Luckily, it does actually have a heatsink on the Mosfets, but you are abusing it past what it was made to handle if you OC.
