CPU Power Cable question

Thread Starter
So i'm running my system on P45-UD3P which has a 8 EPS +12V, my Power Supply however is an old Forton Blue Storm II, which has a simple 4 pin +12V.
So it's been running fine for already 2-3 years no problems whatsoever, my question is, is it actually a problem? Would I benefit from changing it? There are also some free slots on the mobo main power slot.

Cheers guys.

8pin cables allow for more power to be delivered to the CPU.

There usually will not be any difference when changing to an 8pin, except you're putting less strain on the wires from the PSU.

Basically, just don't worry about it.

Thx for the answers.

I do plan on overclocking a Q6600 these days (when my Noctua d14 gets here) to 3.6 ghz +. Do you think that i should consider changing my PSU in this case or it doesn't really matter that much? Could that "lil bit of power" that it might lack, have some kind of an effect?

I would suggest changing your PSU and picking up a unit that's built a bit better. Those Blue Storm II units had lack luster build quality.

The power difference won't mean anything for the Q6600 though. The ATX 4pin cable will be fine.
