The reason why they put the ram slots like that is because it is the shortest distance to the cpu for all slots. It was mentioned in a article i read on here some where, but it helps reduce RF/EMI while having faster speeds. And if they did 8 slots they would prob have to put the slots surrounding the cpu to keep the whole shortest distance possible thing going.

very interesting. I think it seems kind of weird, but since most of us are going water cooling anyways why does it matter. The more think of it the cooler it is to me.

This is X79, socket LGA2011. Used by SB-E.

Ivy Bridge will still use socket 1155.

I read that recently but i thought it was too good to be true.

I just assumed (wrongly) that SB-E would use the current SB socket, and Ivy Bridge will use 2011.
