[VR-Zone][56K Warning!] Computex 2011: X79 motherboards - Page 20

It seems the heatsink designs for socket 2011 is going to be extremely limited due to the limited size of boards.

I'm curious if motherboard manufacturers are simply going to make extended ATX boards in the future or if all future heatsink designs will now be minuscule in comparison to past designs.

I'll be the first to say it: I'll miss the notion of visually appealing heatsink designs as it seems like most manufacturers are going to have to follow a similar look or pattern unless the size of the motherboard is enlarged.

It seems the last Asus board would only be able to use one socket at a time. It is like the old s370 slot 1 boards back in the day. The ram placement makes sense; mobo manufacturers have noted that it is costly to do the 4 channel ram on the G34 chips from AMD. If you put them all on one side you have to add more layers to your PCB. I can see more boards going to the "E-ATX" that eVGA uses for their classified boards, ~10inches wide and not ~9in like ATX. There are single G34 ATX boards out with 8 ram slots, but because they are server/workstation VRM space in limited.

Some countries have data limits, you know.

I foresee many motherboards using that old DFI style of RAM placement.

probably because the chipset offers them, and to not implement them would be a waste of money.

Tbh. i'm fairly limited with my 7 SATA ports, i would have preferred more, much for the sake of my raid 0.
