this.

as OCN users, it's safe to say that most of us are tech geeks, and as tech geeks we are always in the loop. therefore we're going to be constantly updated with new developments in the tech field.

same goes with any other consumer. shoe aficionados always looking to get the newest Kobe kicks or Air Yeezys, head-fiers who always feel the need to upgrade their current $500 IEMs for an "updated" $600 pair, those ricers who are constantly adding mods to their honda civics, or even those home owners who change up their furniture whenever a new IKEA catalogue comes out.

any normal consumer - probably the other 97% of the population - could care less about any of this stuff, they are perfectly content with skullcandy earbuds, a walmart "value bundle" Celeron laptop, and a 6 year old motorola RAZR.

so as tech geeks, I don't really think we have any right to complain, just let the world be

and at the end of the day... after we've died, our children have died, after the earth no longer ceases to exist, none of this stuff matters because nobody will even know we existed. after all we are just Sisyphus rolling a boulder up a hill, but in our case the boulder is transformer pads, Superbowls, Louis Vuittons, sex, twitter, different flavored Doritos, or arguing over pointless garbage like mac vs PC

well that went off topic.. c'est la vie

You obviously haven't been on this site long enough. One of the primary reasons for people recommending Android is the 'support.'

We all know the massive problems behind Android support and how manufacturers like to withhold updates. Don't pretend it doesn't exist because it does.

Before anyone tries calling me out for being an Apple fanboy this is the part were I tell you that literally 3 hours ago I ordered my SII to upgrade from my 3GS.

However, given Samsung's current track record, excuse me if I don't believe they will honour the support of this product once their new flagship phone arrives.

I don't want to turn this into an iOS/Android flame war. Far from it. I'm just pointing out the obvious disadvantages to new tech being released every 10 months, especially surrounding Androids previous track record of support. That's all objective reasoning right there, nothing more, nothing less.
Google is already working to fix this. They are creating development teams made up of people from each manufacturer and each major carrier to ensure each phone receives android OS updates for 18 months after its release.

The 1 year time release is not upsetting to me, what is upsetting is that it takes so long to get the phones to the US. Samsung Galaxy S2 released in late April, however there is no word of when it will be available in the states, if the phones are releasing on a yearly basis that's alright, but if it takes more than 2 months to get the phone to other countries then that makes it feel a little outdated knowing other countries get a new phone in 10 months but even though the new phone exists you wont be able to get it for 12 months.

It's good and bad that its on Q1 in 2012 to me >__<
It's good cause my contract won't end till the end of the year, and bad because it's gonna be a while D: And I need a new phone cause this G1 ain't cutting it no more lol

Going a little deep, aren't we?

Anyways, I don't mind the technology being released. I'm a huge tech freak (at least I'd like to think I am) but the cold hard truth is, the days where you can say "my phone is the best" are numbered. If you buy the SII then 10 years from now, or 10 minutes from now, the SIII will come out and it will be lightyears ahead of your phone.

If you are unhappy with your current phone when the SIII, sell it and buy a new one, if you are incapable of buying one, then be happy with what you've got. Neither of these solutions include whning and moaning about how fast or slow technology is being announced, released, revised, refurbished, facelifted, made love to, etc.

At the speed things are, by the time your device is lacking in support, it's probably archaic already and you're ready for a new one.

On one hand, it's sad that it's such a throw away type culture.

On the other hand, computation is by far humanity's greatest achievement (and as an artist I can say this with 100% confidence). Anything we can do to keep it progressing at lightning speed is truly for the good of the species.

I think you need a beer!

With all of the custom roms/bootloaders available, updates are only as important as the want for them. Normal people have no idea how technology works, and could care less about how many updates they get. IE; Most people I know don't install windows updates because they simply don't care or think it's too technical for them to do.

I like updates, but long-term support (outside of 18 months) isn't necessary in such a volatile market

if the phone was fast enough for you when it came out, then ONLY AFTER a new model came out you think it's slow... (not YOU specifically, just generalizing)

Materialistic greed is human culture at it's finest.

Support from Samsung doesn't matter since most of OCN android users will flash a custom rom on their phone anyways. My battery life more than doubled after using a custom rom. The stock rom Samsung ships with is garbage anyways.
