d90 @ the lowest price I've seen yet. - Page 2

Warranty is basically useless.
If you buy a refurbished camera, you get a 90 day warranty from Nikon USA. Personally, I think that's more than plenty. A refurb unit has probably already had some sort of problem, so Nikon's taken the time to go and check everything out. If nothing fails in 90 days, I don't think anything will.

The price for a refurb is only a $50 difference from anything I saw, and then I have to pay $13 for shipping, and wait. Whether 90 day warranties are usually sufficient or not, I still like the piece of mind from a 1 year factory warranty.

A local camera shop in my area was telling me about a deal they have this week. If you purchase any Nikon body you get for free:
1 Nikon camera bag and starter kit with DVD(retail $70, Amazon.com price $30 used)
1 Class 4 4gb SDHC
Each month for a year I would get 10-4x6, 2-5x7, 1-8x1 prints, and a free photo CD.

Seeing as their price is the same as best buys ($799) and any NEW prices on Adorama or Amazon.com, I honestly would rather pay a slight premium to help keep a local Camera shop in business rather then pay towards a crappy big box retailer who kills small businesses and has a horrible selection and customer service.

Whether you think that this is stupid or not, *coughcoughdudemanppl* this happens to be the lowest price I've ever seen a NEW D90 DSLR selling for since it has came out. That is why I started this thread. I did not want your opinion of warranties or new vs. refurbished, I just wanted to know if anyone had ever seen it for less and alert people to the price drop.

Maybe you think I am weird for this, but I get a better feeling when I am holding something and know that I am the first and only person to have used it. I have been screwed before buying used photography equipment and would have to personally know the seller and know how he was with his stuff to consider it.

If refurb is $50 less, but buying new gets me some extras anyways that make up the cost, I think I will go ahead and pump some money into my local economy.

Oh wow, I guess the refurb price has gone up. A few weeks ago it was $650. Must have gone up after the disaster.

Yea, prices have been going crazy, that's why I'm surprised about the price drop on the d90. My father just ordered a 7d last week at $1649, now its up to $1850. The prices have been fluctuating so much, he was watching for a month trying to catch them on a down swing.

Best buy has it for $799 for the body only, and that is coupled with 18 months no interest financing if you use you're best buy credit card. Just wanted to check and see if anyone knows of any better deals then this. If not, I am heading out to my best buy later this evening to order this.
Dude, not to be a dick, but why are you planning to take on debt (18 mos. no interest notwithstanding) to upgrade your camera. It's this kind of mentality that we have to thank for our $15 Trillion national debt. People need to live within their means.

I'm not exactly taking on debt. I have enough money to cover every penny of my purchase. In fact the only debt I currently hold is my mortgage. Tell me one way that getting financed with a 0% option would be a bad idea? I only hold 1 credit card, I have no balance on it, and if I can spread my payments out over 6, 12, or even 18 months at no penalty to me, I can get the item I want while more of my money still continues to build interest in my account.

The D40x I have is missing some key features that I find myself wishing I had very often. I cannot use some of my older lenses with autofocus, I have no AEB bracketing, and if I didn't spend this money on the camera, I'd still be spending at least a couple hundred on an SBF800 speed light controller because the D40x has no way of triggering my SBF600 if I wanted to mount it off camera. This also will benefit me when I finally purchase the R1C1 lens mounted close up flash system.

Not to hijack, but it seems that most prices went up a click. That nice 35mm 1.8 Nikon has jumped $100 more (now hard to have for less than $300+) Almost all sigma lenses went up. Here's to hoping things come back down in the coming months.
