Things I can guarantee you don't use. Game and driver support is subjective.

Anyway, the 580 Lightning is a BEAST of a card. Would have been my choice if I wasn't content with my current setup.

Well, AMD and Nvidia both are great manufacturers.

Slightly improved tessellation and physx...Nvidia drivers can be just as troublesome as AMD drivers.

It is an absolute beast of an overclocker. It can easily gobble up 1kw of power if you can feed it. I'm waiting to see some extreme overclocks under LN2.

Very true on AMD as of late, much improved. The same can be said about AMD fans who say all Nvidia 500 series get very hot when that's no longer the case which plauged the 400 series. It's hard to break stigma when others claim false propoganda.

Just came here to say that the only cards I have had die on me have all been Nvidia cards. I don't favor one brand or sub-vendor more than the other, but I personally have had a better track record with the red cards.

That being said, I still tend to drool over the green ones more than the red ones. There is some love for you right there.

See Kung, AMD fans can't handle Nvidia fans on the Nvidia forums being happy about their cards. It happens every single thread they jack and start their flame war instead of staying on topic. Hence my number five reason is accurately true. I know your coming from AMD and it's something not seen on their threads because Nvidia fans for the most part don't go over there to make themsevles feel better because we're already happy with our strong performing purchase.
Everything gets more efficient overtime, but I am generally comparing against AMD...
http://www.bit-tech.net/hardware/gra...6970-review/10
Nvidia had no choice but to cool down this volcano... Everyone says the 580 was a more efficient overclocked 480, with more cores and better cooler... and it still gets hot and power consumption is up there...

To steer the thread back into the direction I originally meant it to
Please owners or experienced members of a GTX 580 Lightning watch the video in the quote.

At 03:08 there are switches reviewed that come with the card.
I would like to know the specific function of those and how they can or will aid the overclock since I am used to tweek only the core voltage in Afterburner

#######################################

Also I would like to talk about the silicon lottery and probablity of getting a card with a chip that is better overclockable than others^^

The Lightning has a lot of power inducing and controlling features which will aid the overclock in stability and only marginally in performance ..but how far can they compensate if you get a bad chip?

Meaning ...is there a minimum overclock every Lightning with good voltage management should hit regardless of a bad or good chip?

Same here. Although I've only owned Nvidia cards... hmm... coincidence?

I've cleaned up, and am closing, this flamebait thread. I removed a LOT of off-topic stuff, along with some fanboy-ism that was bordering on trollishness.

Of course, all this is to be expected when the OP is phrased the way it was.
