[Y!] Germany to scrap nuclear power by 2022 - Page 16

Some people here act like solar, wind, hydroelectric, and geothermal power are just hippie green peace voodoo. I'd hate to see a chain of meltdowns doom our planet. As more developing nations, namely China and India, begin to adopt it there will be a possibility of a terrible crisis.

Very true. Harnessing energy from the sun is better than nuclear, as there really isn't any repercussion if a unit fails. Unfortunately it's expensive.

And your 2nd point is valid as well. As the number of reactors increase, the odds that an accident will occur also increases. Especially if the nation decides to cut corners or employs people who aren't 100% qualified (I'm looking at you, USSR. Really, test your failsafes to see if they really are failsafes? That's just plain stupid).

germany isn't in the horrible geographical position japan is in, so i really don't think they need to worry about such an event happening. giving up on nuclear energy is just silly.

They're great ideas, but they cost too much. Hydro and geothermal are great and should be used wherever possibly, but they can't generate anywhere near enough energy. Fixed wind generators are pathetic, though I have great hopes for kite designs. Solar is great for small applications, but it's terribly expensive.

Coal is simply far superior in terms of energy/$ than anything else.
