[Y!] Germany to scrap nuclear power by 2022 - Page 3

The meltdowns in 3 Mile Island and Chernobyl were because of a first generation, "testing" phase of nuclear power. The incident in Japan was because some idiot decided it would be a good idea to build a plant on a island, next to the ocean, where they get big earth quakes. In other words... location,location,location...

Nuclear, in my opinion, is the best power generation we currently have. Until we have fusion, we should use conventional nuclear facilities.

Thats where you're wrong. Japan is an ISLAND with limited resources. For them to have a coal burning plant, they would have to import all of their coal, which would be ridiculously expensive. Nuclear power was the cheapest way to go for them.

Okay, degenerate all you want Germany. I'm sick of enviro-nuts honestly. Most of them are ignorant rejects spreading misinformation to the rest of the world, trying to rile up some fanatic reaction. A bunch of sensationalists, and people believe them too.

Meh...somehow I don't see Germany getting hit by a 9.0 earthquake and a tsunami in the next 1000 years or so. Call me crazy or something, but smells as if a bull finished his digestive cycle.

The most embarrassing thing was Fukushima power plant was built by GE, an American design.
A nearly fifty year old, cost-down design. Since Greenpeace had stalled the approval of more modern designs that would be safer, with similar cost.

This wont happen in ten years... PERIOD. The powers in place wont let it happen. Or more likely they will be like we are with oil dependency and not let it go.

I wouldn't mind living next to a Nuclear plant until the black swan event, then I can pretty much be guaranteed a life of weird genetic problems, and god forbid I have more kids who knows what happens then.

I guess it all comes down to what people are willing to accept, and Germany as a whole as said, thanks but no thanks.

Let's say we find a way to create energy that is infinite, but holds a very small chance of completely destroying the world, should we just accept that rarity as a fact of our energy consumption? Obviously an extreme, but a nuclear meltdown will completely irradiate an area to where it is no longer usable effectively forever.

Nuclear energy isn't worth it. When the black swam event happens it is catastrophic to all life around it. That risk isn't worth it for the people of Germany apparently, good for them.

Guess it's back to burning...

Germany may regret this decision later.
