AMD only? ummmokay. Here goes:

http://pcpartpicker.com/parts/partlist/ar/bZL

Phenom II x4 925

Antec BP 550w modular

ASUS M4a88td evo/usb3

MSI 6850 cyclone

Scythe Mugen 2 [you could go CM 212+ but the mugen 2 performs better for the same price/~5 dollars more]

Corsair XMS 3 2x2gb [mostly for its form factor, would work with most any cooler you put in.. sub this out for his/your preferred ram brand]

Samsung spinpoint f3 1tb HDD

HAF 922 case. [could drop this to a CM 690 II basic and save some cash, or a storm scout, or a haf 912.]

Isn't the 955 at 110$ ?
It worth it IMO.
A part from that I think I've seen a Direct Cu II 6870 @ 180$

It's 120, and no not really when you could OC the 925 to 955 speeds and beyond in a few minutes.

edit: and if he can find a 6870 cheaper he should obviously go with that... lol. OCN marketplace may have something good for him as well if he is interested.

My recommendation:
Phenom II x4 965 - $120 shipped after promo [same price as 955]
ASRock 870 Extreme3 - $90 shipped (I have been told it is likely you get an AM3+ revision of this mobo from Newegg!)
Wintec 2x2GB DDR3-1600 - $43
XFX HD 6950 1GB double lifetime warranty - $240 shipped, $210 AR
NZXT GAMMA case - $46.75 after promo
Rosewill Green 630W - $54 after promo + $2 shipping [it's a great quality PSU, despite the brand name usually not known for that]
Samsung F3 1TB - $59.50 shipped [Meritline]
LG 22X DVD - $19 shipped

- $28.78 shipped [Amazon]
$703.03 shipped

x4 965/6950 build for $700, assuming PC only it looks like you have a great deal also AM3+ expandable among others

If you can wait a week or two I recommend you do, because new AMD motherboards on 900 series chipset are just on the horizon!
