The 212+ does not have the horsepower for higher overclocks. Your question is not comparing apples to apples. Of course the H50 will be much better but at a price premium. If you can afford the H50, that is the best choice by miles. If you put the H50 in push/pull config, you have a dandy cooler. Where can you land a H50 at that price?

What if the corsair H50 was actually 49.99$ (54.29$ after tax).. i checked the price yesterday and I am 99.99% sure it said 39.99$... (43.42$ after tax)... would the corsair H50 @ 54.29$ still be a better performance per dollar than the coolermaster 212 Plus for (30.76 after tax and discounts)?
REPLY ASAP!

The 212 is excellent for price/performance. The H50 will cool much more than the 212. They compare the H50 to a Noctua in some cases which is one of the top coolers. If I were you I would go for the H50 because it is a bit more but I like lower temps for overclocks to A) get higher overclocks and B) prolong the life of the chip.

my 2 cents.

Even with chip differences still... just sayin'.
lol ive managed to get my cpu to 4.5ghz with my 212+ and keep it under 75 degrees, also i would have kept it there if it wasnt for my ram holding it back (becomes unstable after 1hr of prime)

IMO, I'd say H50 for the simple fact that it would cool your chip relatively better than the 212, (especially under load), as well as perform excellent on any future CPU's you purchase.
They are equals, so simmer down. The h50 at best is a few degrees better when the 212+ has 1 fan.

It comes down to what you want in a cooler. Personally I would have bought the h50 if the 212+ wasn't half the price. I just don't like the huge block in the middle of my motherboard. The h50 will look cleaner, but cost more for similar performance.

If you're ok with paying more, then get the h50. Personally I would get the h60(or the Antec variants) or wait on the newer h80/h100 as they will be better on newer, more powerful CPUs.
