Buying parts tomorrow, have I made any mistakes?

Thread Starter
Hello all,

I am new to the forums and come here seeking some advice on my new build.

I am planning to order the components tomorrow and was hoping for some last minute advice or opinions on the build.

What I have selected:

CPU: Core i5 2500k
MOBO: AsRock P67 Pro V3
RAM: G-Skill 8GB DDR3 1600Mhz (2x4GB)
PSU: Antec 620W High Current Gamer PSU
HDD: Samsung HD103SJ Spinpoint F3 1TB

I am still unsure as to what graphics card to get. I am not looking to have SLI/Crossfire. Could you please suggest a graphics card. I am looking for a GPU which has good value for money. My budget would be £100, but if possible i would like to spend less.

Can you suggest anything to improve the build? Also, have I picked bad components with a bad name (from my research it doesn't seem so).

I would like to thank everyone in advance who takes time to reply!

If you're willing to go used, then you can pick up a 5870 for just over £100 on eBay - that'd be a great card that would last you a while and let you play most modern games on good image quality settings.

Otherwise, you might be able to find a good deal on a 460 for around £100 too.

Right now, I think £100 is just under the amount needed to buy a high performance video card, but it depends on what you want to play with it. If you want to play Crysis etc, spend a bit extra. If you only want to play WoW or flash games etc, then a 5770 would do the job and allow you to save up for a better card in future.

welcome dan035,

For your build, ive not heard of the antec high gamer power supplies before, but I wouldnt recommend something that advertises itself as "perfect combination of power and effeciency". Personally id spend an extra £30 or so and go with the Antec Newtruepower rane of PSUs, you cant go wrong with those.

For £100 GPU your looking at a gtx 460 1gb at best, not sure about ATI graphics cards though.

Silent, as far as I know, the High Current gamer is a cut down version of the High Current Pro series, which is well regarded as one of the best lines on the PSU Market.

well you learn something new everyday, last time i checked the antec newtruepower were the PSU to have.

My gut instinct just tells me not to buy something when it says something like combining power & effeciency...especially when its under £50.

I may well be making that up, but that's just what I recall hearing.

I didn't say it's the best unit, but it's not the worst by a long shot (I think?).

If you wanted the absolute best on the Market, I believe that'd be the Seasonic X series!

HD 6850 - should be around $150 after rebates ---- Get it!

I like ASRock mobo - it is not the best of the best but I can tell you that the board is good value and quality (at least AMD vesrion I got).
