CPU/GPU heat concerns

Hey guys,

I have a brand new Lenovo Y560 Ideapad. It has an i7 quad core, 2630QM model. It also has a Radeon HD6570 GPU.

Im running HWMonitor and various other programs and getting pretty consistent temperature results. During idle, my 4 cores are 40, 42, 43, and 46C, and my GPU is 46C.

After playing BF Bad Company 2 for just 15 minutes, its reporting that my cores are approaching 90C and my GPU approaching 85 - 90C.

Now Im pretty sure that is way too hot for a cpu, but the thing is, the computer is totally cool to the touch. There is only medium warmth coming from the vent thats blowing out air, but nothing really worrying. Now Ive owned laptops that have been hot enough to burn my skin, but this really feels totally cool. My old Dell Latitude with an old core 2 duo used to burn my legs and it ran just fine for years. Is it possible that my CPU is at 90C and the laptop feels fine? Im really not encountering any slowdowns or graphic glitches in the games... Im just extremely concerned about the reading Im getting. Is it likely that the reading is wrong? Can it be that my components are really that hot but it feels so cool to the touch? Any help would be appreciated, I really dont want this thing to fry. Thanks

Sounds like a common problem with the 2630QM:

Looks like the max allowed temperature is 100C, so it's probably ok at 85C or so. Worth bearing in mind that the temps will increase as dust starts to accumulate.

There is a separate forum towards the bottom, just for laptop and pad questions! Just so you know!

But as to your question, are you using any kind of laptop cooler???
I know my laptop cooler helps a lot in both load and idle temps!
They are well worth the cost! IMO

As for your temps, yes, your running hot!

I actualy ordered a 3 fan cooler, should be here tomorrow. But if my cores are that hot, wouldn't the laptop case begin to feel hot as well? There is truly no heat on the top surface of the laptop. The bottom is also cool to the touch. The only warmth is the air coming from the fan vent, and even that isnt hot, just warm. Is it possible that the software reading the temps are all wrong? I just think its weird that my other non gaming machines would get super hot to the touch and run ok. but this feels fine and is reporting such high temps.

You should download Real Temp, and see what that says!

Just used realtemp, It read a max of 85C on 2 of my cores, 80c for the other 2. Again, the laptop feels perfectly fine. Im guessing since both programs read similar temps they must be correct? Once this cooler comes, what can I expect the temps to drop to? IS it safe to run at these temps while gaming or do I need to do something?? The laptop is only 5 days old, so I know dust isnt an issue

That depends on the quality of the cooler!
It could drop your temps by as much as 8C, or it may have no affect at all?

I don't have a gaming laptop, but my Zalman cooler dropped my temps by about 5C
