can rivets be replaced with screws?

Thread Starter
hey guys,

i was thinking about painting an old case i have and making a few other modifications. before i do all of this i was wondering what i will replace the rivets with because i don't have a river gun. i have seen many mods where people drill out the rivets in their case to pain every component of it, but they never say what they do to put it back together. so i was wondering, can i just replace them with screws?

thank you in advance

I rivet gun is a few bucks at your local hardware store.
Good investment.

Honestly, I bought my rivet gun for around 7 or 8 bucks at Home Depot.. I've used it a lot more than I thought (a couple chicken hutches, and LOTS of case modding. ). Go out and check out pricing. Rivet guns aren't too expensive.

To answer the question, yes you can use screws. If you wish to go that route, FTW PC has all the screws you need.

Like smasherbasher said, you can definitely use screws in place of rivets and this allows for easy removal if you want to ever paint that part again so you don't have to drill out the rivets again and reinstall them. Make sure the screws you are using will fit properly in the holes you have drilled.

Or buy a tap and tap the hole for screws.
Also if you do use screws I recommend that you use the nylock style self locking nuts with nylon inserts in them so things don't start to vibrate if the nuts loosen up.

thanks for all the responses... i think that i will just use nuts and bots to replace the rivets as i hate drilling them out ... thanks once again
