Upgrading Phenormous

Once bulldozer is released I'm upgrading. Hehe. <3 ASUS.

Current system specs:

Budget will be based on price per performance. I'm not looking at spending a LOT but a reasonable amount. This PC will be upgraded for the sake of engineering application and future proof gaming for the rest of my school years.

What I'm thinking:

Viewsonic 22IN Widescreen LCD Monitor 1680X1050 3.5MS 120HZ 3D Ready VGA DVI Speakers @ $247.35 w/ Pricecheck
Asus EAH5850 DirectCU TOP Radeon HD 5850 1GB OC PCI-E w/ DVI, HDMI, DisplayPort @ 189.99
LiteOn 4x Internal Blu-ray Disc Reader, SATA, Black @ 69.99
Bulldozer CPU (6 or 8 cores, still haven't decided yet. Will depend on performance for price) @ ~$300
Polk Audio CSR Center Channel Loudspeaker @ $39.97
Western Digital 1TB My Book Essential External Hard Drive, USB 3.0 @ $94.99 as a backup drive.

@ $209.99

Cheers on input!

Don't get a monitor with a res. under 1920x1080. You can probably find a nice 23in-24in with a 60Hz refresh rate (as 120Hz is worthless) for around $180. With the money you save, invest in a 6950 2GB that you can unlock.

I'm sure 2 5850s won't power 1080P after 2 years.

120 Hz is not useless. You can detect objects at 1/220 of a second. I've always seen an improvement going from 60 hz to 75/85 hz. Less artifacts, better colour transitions, more natural picture transformation.

A single 6950 unlocked will not come close to 5850 crossfire.

Cheers on the suggestions though. I'm also thinking of picking up a webcam so I can talk with me buddy from Italy.
